6. Hurricane Ike, $20.5 Billion
Hurricane Ike was a powerful tropical cyclone that swept through portions of the Greater Antilles and Northern America in September 2008, wreaking havoc on infrastructure and agriculture, particularly in Cuba and Texas. It lasted for 14 days as it began on Sept. 1 and ended on Sept. 15. Lots of properties were lost and valuing the lost properties, it came down to close to $38 billion with insurance claims of close to $21 billion making somehow sense.
